About the Artist: Laurie Buck
Born in Greenville, SC, Laurie Buck is an abstract floral artist who paints out of the White Whale Studios in West Greenville. Laurie’s work has been shown regionally at Art & Light Gallery, the Center for Creative Arts, and the Poinsett Club of Greenville, the Arts Center in Greenwood, SC, and Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, among others, and her work is held in private collections both nationally and internationally.
Laurie’s work focuses mainly on creating an experience for the viewer of tranquility and freedom through her original floral and abstract work. Laurie’s paintings reveal a love of the monochromatic and can be characterized as rich and imaginative, at once energetic and peaceful — blooms dripping with light as though liquid, leaves careening upward searching for sunlight. Though known for her floral work, her abstract work also reveals an exploration of vivid monochromatic colors layered with free whimsical brushwork. Recently, Laurie has begun to paint over-sized floral paintings reminiscent of early Impressionism — “like entrances to a secret garden.” Laurie says of her work, “The variety and splendor of the natural world spark a deep joy in me that I long to evoke in my work — the order and seeming chaos provide unending inspiration. Above all, I aim to impress on viewers that, from the chaotic, difficult and broken, beauty can emerge.”
Laurie’s work can be viewed and acquired from her Greenville studio directly or via her website.
