Reflections from our Bookshelf: To Shake the Sleeping Self

To Shake the Sleeping Self: A Journey from Oregon to Patagonia, and a Quest for a Life with No Regret
By: Jedidiah Jenkins
Reflection by: Lauran Henderson

Why I read it?

I love reading books where someone faces a daunting challenge, and over the course of the story you get to see how they grow and push themselves as a person to succeed.

What is it all about?

Jedidiah Jenkins takes the reader with him as he bicycles across two continents and all the exploration that entails. He submerges himself in self-reflection and helping others and talks about the amazing cultures he interacts with on the way.

What caused me to pause?

Books like these remind me that life is short and simply amazing, but it’s easy to settle into life just going through the motions of existence. Whether it’s trying a new hobby that allows you to see the world or just trying something new at home, the opportunities available to us are endless. We can always push our limits and expectations of ourselves.

How will this book change my habits or influence me?

After reading this book, I say yes more and consciously take more carefree moments to enjoy nature around me.

Add this to your reading list if… you have a big challenge coming up or want a reminder of why our precious time here matters so much.
