Why I read it?
The Lighthouse Effect was recommended to me by a personal mentor in my life.
What is it all about?
The Lighthouse Effect is a collection of powerful, true stories about ordinary people who make extraordinary differences in others’ lives. Drawing from his own difficult and chaotic upbringing in the foster care system, Pemberton, explores how “lighthouse people” – mentors, teachers, friends, colleagues, and strangers – can offer guidance, hope, and direction in all phases of life. The lighthouse is a metaphor for those who guide others through challenging periods, just as real lighthouses guide ships safely to shore.
What caused me to pause?
The book does not focus on celebrity or fame; it highlights regular people who make profound differences in others’ lives – often without recognition.
How will this book change habits or influence me?
This book has reminded me to look at the people I am around the most; to recognize those who are the “lighthouse” figures – people who quietly guide, support, and believe in me while challenging me to live with a greater purpose by being a “lighthouse” to others.
